What are the advantages of a hosted web-based service rather than a software package I have on my server?

A hosted web-based service has many advantages over a software package on your own server.

  • We are responsible for all maintenance of the system.
  • Updates and enhancements become available just as soon as they are tested. Your access to them is both immediate and seamless.
  • Updates are included in the price of the subscription, not added on as separate packages.
  • Data is stored with complete security and backed up every evening.
  • We provide technical assistance.

How many programs are included in a single institutional license?

One institution-wide license includes as many programs and as many levels as you determine. There is no limit.

What support does WEAVEonline provide?

We provide on-line training and technical assistance via phone and email Monday-Friday. We believe that one of the reasons that WEAVEonline has spread by word of mouth to this point is our strong commitment to service.

How will WEAVEonline determine future enhancements?

Users will determine future enhancements to WEAVEonline. User groups, both via the web and in person, meet regularly to discuss and prioritize enhancements for all users. We are firmly committed staying true to the WEAVEonline heritage as a product that is developed by higher education – for higher education.

What is the story behind the development of WEAVEonline?

In 2001, preparing for a reaffirmation of accreditation, VCU staff in areas under the provost recognized the need to bring structure to assessment efforts across the institution. They developed a web-based form for assessment-cycle submissions; it was nicknamed WEAVE for the cycle acronym. Not long after, based on feedback from faculty and staff, the university moved to a simple web-based assessment management system, WEAVEonline (version 2). Other institutions showed interest in the system as word spread through conference presentations. Eventually VCU began a hosted subscription service to meet external demand. In 2006, VCU spun WEAVEonline off into an independent company. Now subscribers, including VCU, shape the future of WEAVEonline through their comments and suggestions.

Suppose we subscribe for several years, but then decide to unsubscribe. What happens to our data?

You own your data. Should you decide to unsubscribe, all of your data in WEAVEonline will be returned to you.

How can WEAVEonline assist my institution in meeting accreditation expectations?

WEAVEonline is designed to demonstrate institutional effectiveness. It allows you to relate program planning to planning in departments and other units up to institution wide planning. It leads all programs through the plan-assess- improve cycle, tracks actions and the costs of those actions, and documents ongoing improvements at all levels. It thus provides a dynamic record of institutional effectiveness for use in regional and specialized accreditation as well as internal program review. (Also see Benefits of WEAVEonline )

How can WEAVEonline support institutional strategic planning and initiatives?

WEAVEonline relates programmatic planning to institution-wide planning and allows you to track actions over time.

What hardware and software support does WEAVEonline require at the institutional level?

All any user needs is a computer with internet access to access WEAVEonline from anywhere at anytime. (See Technical FAQ’s for browser requirements.)

Who has access to WEAVEonline?

You determine access at any of three levels: Administrative access allows for viewing the status of planning and assessment across programs, managing people and programs, sending messages through WEAVEonline’s internal email system, running standard reports across programs, and searching for commonalities across programs. Data Manager access allows the user to write in the program workspace. Reviewer access allows users read-only access. A single user may have different levels of access to different programs.

How can I arrange for a demonstration of WEAVEonline at my institution?

The best way to learn if WEAVEonline is right for your institution is to schedule a live demo that we conduct by online by WebEx.

In the interim, you may find it helpful to take an online guided tour of WEAVEonline. While this will not address issues specific to your institution, it will give you a solid overview of the application.
